Hummel, Westler Named to 2026 NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio softball seniors Belle Hummel and Shelby Westler both earned a spot on the 2026 NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, the organization announced today (May 14).
Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) is coming off an historic season at the plate for the Bobcats, hitting .462 with 91 hits, 19 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 44 RBI, while scoring 82 runs and recording 141 total bases. She registered a .716 slugging percentage and drew 35 walks and had a .547 on base percentage. Hummel played and started in all 58 games for the Bobcats this season and in the field had a .972 fielding percentage with 103 putouts, three assists and three errors.
This season, Hummel set the Ohio single season record in batting average, hits and run scored and the Mid-American Conference single season record in hits and runs scored. She led the MAC this season in batting average, hits, runs scored and on base percentage. She also ranks second in the NCAA in runs, third in hits, seventh in runs per game, 15th in batting average and 16th in doubles.
In conference play, Hummel hit .441 with 41 hits, 10 doubles, three home runs, 38 runs scored and 16 RBI. She had a 1.172 OPS and a .645 slugging percentage with 60 total bases. During the conference season, she drew 17 walks and had a .527 on base percentage. In the field, she held a .966 fielding percentage, with 58 catches, two errors, 55 putouts and one assist, while also helping turn one double play.
Hummel was named MAC Player of the Week, NCAA Softball DI Centerfielder of the Week and First Team All-MAC. She earned a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team after hitting .563 with nine hits, 10 runs, two doubles, one triple and three home runs to go along with a 1.375 slugging percentage.
Westler is also coming off a stellar final season with the Bobcats. This season, Westler played and started all 58 games at third base, hitting .356 with 63 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 43 runs scored and 66 RBI. She recorded a .616 slugging percentage, 109 total bases and drew 21 walks with a .419 on base percentage. In the field, Westler handled the hot corner, recording 46 putouts, 81 assists and nine errors for a .934 fielding percentage.
This season, Westler set the Ohio single season record in RBI and led the MAC in the same category. She is currently 22nd in the nation in doubles and 19th in RBI.
In MAC play, Westler hit .362 with 34 hits, 10 doubles, six home runs, 42 RBI and 22 runs scored. She recorded a 1.048 OPS with a .680 slugging percentage and a .388 on base percentage. During conference play, Westler recorded a .967 fielding percentage, with only two errors, while recording 61 catches, 21 putouts and 38 assists, while helping turn one double play. This season against Miami, Westler put together a stellar series where she it .538 with four extra base hits, 13 RBI and a grand slam, while not recording an error in the field to lead Ohio to the series in.
This season, Westler was named MAC Player of the Week, DI Softball Mid-Major Player of the Week, NCAA Softball Starting Third Baseman of the Week and was named Second Team All-MAC.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2025 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
The 2025 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA DI All-American Committee, will be announced on May 27.
