Ohio Softball Downs Buffalo, 10-2, in Series Finale

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ohio softball team (7-14, 1-2 MAC) wrapped up a three-game series with Buffalo (10-9, 2-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bulls, 10-2 in six innings.Â

Overall, Ohio scored 10 runs on 13 hits and committed one error, while Buffalo scored two runs on seven hits and did not commit and error.Â
Â
Individually, senior Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas) led the Bobcats, going 3-for-4 with a homerun, double, two runs scored and four RBI. Sophomore Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while sophomore Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 2-for-2 with a double, homerun, two runs scored and an RBI. Senior Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) added a homerun, as did junior Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio). Freshman Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) registered a hit and scored two runs, while graduate students Tori Walker (Plain City, Ohio) and Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio) all had base hits.Â

It took two full innings for the offense to get going. The Bobcats struck first in the top of the third inning. Logan led the inning off with a homerun to right center. After Yuhas was hit by a pitch, Spacek crushed a ball to left center for a two-run homerun, giving Ohio a 3-0 lead.Â

After a quick rain delay, Ohio added on in the top of the fourth inning, with Spacek driving in a run to put the Bobcats up 4-0. The Bulls got a run back in the bottom of the frame, scoring on an RBI double to cut the Ohio lead to 4-1 after four innings of play.Â

The Bobcats got the run back in the top of the fifth inning with a solo homerun from Fogue to put Ohio up 5-1. Â

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning, the Ohio offense added on in the top of the sixth inning. Logan led off with a double to left center and then moved to third when Yuhas reached on a single. Spacek then doubled down the left field line, scoring Logan, putting the Bobcats up 6-1.Â

After a Buffalo pitching change, Paoli singled to center, scoring Yuhas. Still with one out, Ohio executed a double steal, with Paoli taking second, allowing Spacek to score, putting Ohio up 8-2. Moments later, Bernard crushed a two-run homerun to left, giving Ohio a 10-1 lead going into the bottom of the inning.Â

Buffalo got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it would not be enough to extend the game, sealing the 10-2 victory for the Bobcats.Â

In the circle, senior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) pitched six innings, allowing two runs o seven hits, walked one and struck out six in the victory.Â

Up next, the Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, March 23 when Ohio hosts Ohio State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field.Â
