
Ohio Softball Splits Day Two At Hilltopper Spring Fling

BOWLING GREEN Ky. – The Ohio Softball team (3-5) returned to action Saturday (Feb. 26) at the Hilltopper Spring Fling. The Bobcats fell to Western Kentucky (10-1), 1-7, before defeating Dayton (1-7), 4-3 Saturday night.Â

GAME ONE: Western Kentucky 7, Ohio 1
Overall, Ohio scored one run on six hits and committed two errors, while Western Kentucky recorded seven runs on 10 hits and did not record an error.Â
Â
Individually, senior Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas) went 1-for-3, scoring the Bobcats only run, while fifth year Brooke Rice (Mason, Ohio) went 2-for-3. Fifth year Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio), fifth year Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.), and sophomore Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) all went 1-for-3.Â

Western Kentucky opened the game scoring two runs to take an early 2-0 lead. Ohio was unable to capitalize on hits until Spacek homered to center field in the top of the third inning.Â

The Ohio defense held strong over the next defensive frame, before Western Kentucky opened up the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to increase their lead to 7-1.

Overall the Bobcats left eight runners on base through seven innings, unable to overcome Western Kentucky's early lead.Â

In the circle, Kylie Coffelt (Beloit, Ohio) pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and walked one batter in the loss.Â

GAME TWO: Ohio 4, Dayton 3
Overall, Ohio scored four runs on five hits and only committed one error, while Dayton scored three runs on five hits and committed two errors.Â

Individually, Englant went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while freshman CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) added a triple and two runs scored. McMenemy registered two RBI, including the game-winning RBI. Freshman Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) recorded a hit and a run scored, while Spacek registered one hit and one RBI.Â

After two innings of little action, Ohio took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning off a sacrifice bunt by Spacek and a sacrifice fly by McMenemy.Â

Dayton responded in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. Ohio responded in the bottom of the fame with Ohio scoring a run on a triple by Keidel, putting the Bobcats up 3-2.Â

Ohio's defense held true and kept Dayton from scoring in the fifth and sixth innings, until the Flyers tied the game in the top of the seventh on a single to right field. The Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the seventh after McMenemy was walked with bases loaded, sending Keidel home and sealing the win for the Bobcats.Â

In the circle, Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, struck out seven.Â
