
Ohio Softball Concludes Day Two at Camel Stampede

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Ohio softball team (3-8) returned to action Saturday (Feb. 25) for the second day of the Camel Stampede, with Ohio falling to host Campbell (9-5), 5-4.Â

Overall, Ohio scored four runs on eight hits and committed four errors, while Campbell scored five runs on four hits and committed two errors.Â
Â
Individually, freshman Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and one walk, while junior Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Senior Alexis Dawe (Valley Springs, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and two RBI. Sophomore Reagan Farmer (Baltimore, Ohio) added one hit for Ohio, while junior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) both drew walks.Â

In the circle, Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio), pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits, walked wo and struck out three.

Ohio threatened in the top of the first inning when Hummel and Logan drew walks to lead off the inning. With two outs, Westler drew a walk to lead the bases, however the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, sending the game to the bottom of the frame scoreless. Campbell was able to get a runner on in the bottom of the inning, but the Ohio offense held them off the board, keeping the game tied at 0-0.Â

Following the first inning, the game went into a rain delay. After play resumed after 6 p.m., the Bobcats threatened in the top of the third inning when Paoli doubled with two outs and then scored moments later an RBI single from Dawe, putting Ohio up 1-0 going into the bottom of the third inning.

After a scoreless top of the fourth inning for Ohio, Campbell's offense took advantage of some Ohio miscues, scoring four runs on two hits and one error to take a 4-1 lead going into the fifth inning.

The Bobcats got a run back in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Hummel singled to third and then moved to third what Logan reached on a throwing error. Moments later, Hummel scored on an RBI single from Paoli, cutting the Ohio deficit to 4-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. Â

Ohio threatened in the top of the sixth inning, when with one out sophomore Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) was hit by a pitch. Farmer then singled and then moved to second on a single from Hummel to load the bases. However, Ohio was unable to get a run across, sending the game to the bottom of the inning still trailing 4-2.Â

Campbell added on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead after six innings.

Ohio responded in the top of the seventh inning. Paoli singled to lead off the inning and then scored on an RBI triple from Dawe to cut the deficit to 5-3 with no outs. With two outs, Dawe scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to one. However, that's as close as Ohio would get, falling 5-4.Â

Up next, due to rain, the Bobcats matchup with No. 14 Duke that was scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight has been rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 26 at noon.Â
