
No. 4 Ohio Softball’s Season Comes to End in the MAC Tournament after Falling to No. 6 Western Michigan

AKRON, OHIO - The No. 4 Ohio softball team (38-20) returned to action for another elimination game in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Saturday morning (May 9), falling in a heartbreaker against No. 6 Western Michigan (29-25) by a final score of 7-6 at Firestone Stadium.
The loss meant Ohio's season came to an end, closing a season that saw over 30 wins, multiple team records and single season records broken.
Overall, Ohio scored six runs on seven hits, while not committing an error. Western Michigan scored seven runs on seven hits while not committing an error.
At the plate, senior outfielder Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a triple, a walk and scored two runs while junior outfielder Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) had one hit and one RBI. Senior infielder Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) had one hit and an RBI, while sophomore infielder Sydney Young (Charleson, W. Va.) had a walk and a solo home run.
In the circle, graduate student Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start and threw seven innings, while allowing five runs, five hits and striking out eight batters.
Hummel would lead off the bottom of the first with a triple before an RBI groundout from junior infielder Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) would give Ohio an early 1-0 lead.
The Broncos would answer in the top of the second with an RBI single to tie the game and an RBI double to give WMU a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Young would make it back-to-back days with a home run, crushing a solo shot to left-field to tie it.
Ohio would get back on the board in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Bare would score sophomore infielder Abby Kennelly (Waterville, Ohio). Senior infielder Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) would draw a walk with the bases loaded, scoring another run before an RBI single from Wilson would make it 5-2 going into the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, the Broncos would cut the lead to one run after a two-run home run. The Bobcats would earn a run back in the bottom of the inning after freshman Sena Smith (East Liverpool, Ohio) scored from third on a passed ball to make it 6-4 going into the sixth.
Western Michigan would score three runs in the top of the seventh, taking a 7-6 lead as it changed sides and Ohio came up to bat.
The Bobcats looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh, however, the Broncos would send Ohio down in order, ending the Bobcats season by the final of 7-6.
