ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (33-17, 15-9 MAC) wrapped up its 2026 home slate Saturday afternoon (April 25), defeating MAC-leading Akron (29-22, 19-5 MAC), 10-0 in five innings on Senior Day at the Ohio Softball Field. With the win, the Bobcats clinched a spot in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament May 6-9 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bobcats honored graduating seniors Colleen Bare, Rylee McDaniel, Shelby Westler, Belle Hummel and Keegan Moore

Overall, Ohio scored 10 runs on 10 hits and did not commit an error, while Akron did not score a run on four hits and committed one error.

At the plate, Westler (Marion, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while junior Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a hit, trying the Ohio single season hits record with 78, while junior Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) hit a home run with three RBI. Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) also added a home run and scored three runs, while sophomore Sydney Young (Charleston, W. Va.) had a double and RBI. Sophomore Alexis Book (Chillicothe, Ohio) had a hit and McDaniel (Ventura, Calif.) added two RBI.

In the circle, graduate student Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got her final start at the Ohio Softball Field, throwing 4.2 innings and picking up her 18th win of the season. She did not allow a run on four hits, walked four and struck out two. Moore (South Point, Ohio) entered the game to record the final out.

After a quick top of the first from Akron, Ohio got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After Hummel reached on a leadoff single and Bare drew a walk, Farmer hit a three-run home run to center field, giving Ohio a 3-0 lead. After Ohio loaded the bases, a two-out walk to Book scored Wilson. With the bases still loaded, Akron made a change in the circle, and the Zips were able to get the final out of the inning, sending Ohio to the second with a 4-0 lead.

After the Bobcats turned a double play in the top of the second inning to end the threat, Ohio added on in the bottom of the inning when Westler hit a two-run home run to left to put Ohio up 6-0 after two innings.

After a scoreless third, Akron put two runners on in the top of the fourth, however, Miller and the Ohio defense were able to work out of the jam, sending the game to the bottom of the inning with the 6-0 lead.

Ohio then added on in the bottom of the inning after Bare hit a leadoff home run to right center, putting Ohio up 7-0.  Ohio wasn't done and with one out, Westler and Wilson reached on back-to-back hard singles off the right center wall. Moments later, an RBI double from Young scored another run for the Bobcats. Ohio would then add on two more before the inning was over, taking a 10-0 lead going into the top of the fifth.

Akron looked to extend the game in the top of the fifth inning, putting runners on first and second with one out. After Miller struck out the next Akron batter, she was replaced by Moore in the circle, who recorded the final out and secured the 10-0 five inning win.

Up next, the Bobcats head to Amherst, Mass. for the final series of the regular season May 1-2. The first game of the series will begin on Friday, May 1 at 3 p.m. ET and be seen on ESPN+.
