DAYTON, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (9-26) fell 10-8 at Dayton (21-18) on Tuesday, April 15.

Ohio finished with 13 hits and two errors. Dayton finished with 11 hits and three errors.

Freshman Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.) led Ohio with three hits, two RBI's and two runs. Senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) also recorded three hits on four at bats in addition to scoring three runs. Freshman Brady Alexander (Glenshaw, Pa.) finished 3-for-5 at the plate with one run and one RBI. In his collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Drew Cox (Mason, Ohio) tallied one hits and two RBI's.

Sophomore Trey Barkman (Kidron, Ohio) started on the mound for Ohio and pitched 1.2 innings. Barkman allowed two runs and recorded two strikeouts. Five other pitchers appeared on the mound for Ohio including graduate student Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.) who tallied two strikeouts on seven batters faced.

Ohio got off to a hot start with a home run by Ineich. A two RBI double by Cox put the Bobcats up 3-0 at the end of the top of the first inning. Cauthron and sophomore Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) scored on Cox's double.

The Bobcats increased their lead to 5-2 in the second inning. Alexander scored on a double by Ineich. An RBI single by graduate student Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) brought home Ineich, scoring Ohio's fifth run of the game.

Dayton tied the game at 6-6 in the fourth inning. The score remained tied through the fifth inning.

Despite Ohio scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning, Dayton was able to take its first lead of the game. The Flyers led the Bobcats 9-8 heading into the seventh inning.

Dayton increased its lead to 10-8 in the seventh inning and held it through the rest of the game.

The Bobcats will be back in action at Kent State on Thursday, April 17. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
