Â
The Bobcats bats were hot all game, allowing for an offensive explosion that carried them to a win in the final game of the year.Â
Â
Ohio scored 15 runs on 16 hits while not committing an error, while Eastern Michigan scored seven runs on 15 hits while committing three errors.Â
Â
A leadoff walk from sophomore outfielder Brady Alexander (Glenshaw, Pa.) got the Bobcats started on offense. Alexander would steal second, setting up for an RBI single from junior outfielder Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, Ky.) to bring him home for a score.Â
Â
Freshman lefty Evan Lichtenauer (Newark, Ohio) started hot on the mound, going 1-2-3 to end the inning 1-0 in favor of Ohio. Lichtenauer had a solid start, pitching five innings while allowing three runs, getting two strikeouts, and earning the win.Â
Â
The next three innings were scoreless for both squads, but Ohio would get the bats going again in the top of the fourth inning as fifth-year infielder Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.) and junior catcher Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) both got on base to start the inning before senior infielder Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) would deliver with his fifth home run of the year to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bobcats.Â
Â
Later in the inning, redshirt freshman infielder Grant Wilson (Bradenton, Fla.) would get on base, and senior infielder Cam Hill (Chicago, Ill.) would bring him home with an RBI single.Â
Â
The Eagles would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-1 going into the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats would score two more after Shepherd would drive home a run with an RBI single and then he would score after a throwing error from the Eastern Michigan catcher.
Â
Eastern Michigan would again score in the bottom of the inning, getting on the board with an RBI triple, and then an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3 after six innings.Â
Â
In the top of the seventh, Ohio would once again leave the yard with a two-run home run from Henson, scoring Boyd.
Â
The home run party wasn't done yet, as Wilson would hit another two-run home run, this one scoring Stack to make it a four-run inning, giving Ohio an 11-4 lead after the Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the inning.Â
Â
Eastern Michigan would continue to respond, as it strung together a three-run bottom of the eighth inning to put some pressure on Ohio going into the ninth.Â
Â
The Bobcats would not wilt with the pressure, as a double from Stack would score a run on an Eastern Michigan error, and graduate student infielder Colton Shirley (Anderson, Ind.) would later hit another two-run home run to score Stack.
Â
Hill would hit one last home run to make it 15 runs on the day for the Ohio offense, as the Bobcats closed out the game and the season with a 15-7 win.
