ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio softball team (16-18, 10-5 MAC) defeated Central Michigan (16-18, 7-5 MAC) today at the Ohio Softball Field (April 15).

Individually, fifth years Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio) was 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs while Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. In the circle, senior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) pitched a complete game, registering six strikeouts while giving up six hits.

The Bobcats jumped ahead early, scoring in the bottom of the first when McMenemy hit a sacrifice fly to center field. They extended their lead in the second inning with a solo home run from junior Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio), putting Ohio ahead 2-0.

In the top of the sixth, Central Michigan scored their first run off an RBI single. Ohio broke ahead in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs to take a 7-1 lead. Freshman Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) got the ball rolling with an RBI triple, immediately followed by a two-run home run from Englant. Before the end of the inning, McMenemy knocked in two insurance runs with a homer to left-center field.

A Chippewa home run drove in one more run in the top of the seventh, but Kohl drew two strikeouts to solidify Ohio's 7-2 victory.
