ATHENS, Ohio – A two homerun bottom of the seventh inning, including a walk-off two-run shot from senior
Caitlin Fogue, helped the Ohio Softball team (17-19, 11-6 MAC) split a doubleheader with Central Michigan (17-19,8-6 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field. The Bobcats dropped game, one 5-2, but took game two, 8-6.
With the Bobcats win today, Ohio took the three-game series from CMU, 2-1,
GAME ONE: Central Michigan 5, Ohio 2
Overall, Central Michigan scored five runs on eight hits and did not commit and error, while Ohio scored two runs on four hits and committed three errors.
Individually, junior
Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run score, while graduate student
Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio) added a hit and an RBI. Senior
Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas) also added a hit for the Bobcats,
Central Michigan struck first in the top of the second inning on a leadoff solo homerun to center, putting CMU up 1-0 going to the bottom of the second. The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the second. With one out, Bernard doubled and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Moments later she scored on a sacrifice fly from Spacek, tying the game at 1-1 after two full frames.
CMU retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning on their second leadoff homerun of the day, taking a 2-1 lead going to the bottom of the frame. Ohio threatened to tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bernard singled with two outs. However, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, sending the game to the top of the fifth with CMU leading, 2-1.
CMU added on in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on two hits, taking a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the frame, cutting the CMU lead in half with a solo homerun from McMenemy, cutting the Ohio deficit to 4-2 going into the final inning.
However, CMU was able to get the run back in the top of the seventh on their third homerun of the game, taking a 5-2 lead late in the game. The Bobcats attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning, with Spacek reaching on a one-out single. However, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, dropping game one, 5-2.

GAME TWO: Ohio 8, Central Michigan 6
Overall, Ohio scored eight runs on nine hits and committed two errors, while CMU scored six runs on 11 hits and committed three errors.
Individually, Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) went 1-for-4 with a homerun, run scored and three RBI, while sophomore
Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a homerun, double, RBI and two runs scored. McMenemy added two hits, a homerun and an RBI, while sophomore
Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Spacek added a hit and two runs scored, while freshman
Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) added a hit, while Bernard recorded and RBI.
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Logan doubled to right and then moved to third on a single from McMenemy. Moments later, Logan scored on a fielder's choice from Paoli, giving Ohio a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
CMU tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning after an RBI single.
Ohio responded in the bottom of the frame. Logan led the inning off with a homerun to left center, putting Ohio up 2-1. With one out, Paoli tripled to right and then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bobcats the 3-1 lead after three full innings.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Ohio added on in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Paoli singled and then moved to second on a ground out. She then advanced to third when Spacek reached on a single. Then, as Spacek stole, Paoli scored on an error by the CMU catcher, putting Ohio up 4-1. Moments later, Spacek scored when Fogue reached on an error by the pitcher, putting Ohio up, 5-1 after five innings.
In the top of the sixth, CMU cut the Ohio lead to two, scoring two run on three hits and one error, cutting the Bobcats lead to 5-3 going into the bottom of the inning.
CMU took the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a three-run homerun to give them the 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
The Bobcats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff homerun from McMenemy, knotting the game at 6-6 with no outs. Then, after Spacek drew a two-out walk, Fogue came to the place and crushed a homerun to right field, walking off the Bobcats with the 8-6 victory.

Kylie Coffelt (Beloit, Ohio) pitched seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, walked one and struck out four.

The Bobcats are back in action April 19-20 when they head to Kent, Ohio for a three-game series with Kent State.
