Ohio Baseball Earns 8-5 Win at Bowling Green on Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (4-19, 2-6 MAC) earned a 8-5 win over conference opponent Bowling Green (6-13, 3-5 MAC) on Saturday, March 21.

Ohio recorded eight runs on 11 hits with one error, while Bowling Green had five runs with seven hits and one error.

On the mound, sophomore Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio) got the win, with 5.1 innings pitched, allowing one run on three hits, walked one and struck out three. Senior Dylan Masters (New Albany, Ohio) got the save, pitching the final 2.1 innings, allowing no hits and no runs with three strikeouts.

At the plate, graduate student Colton Shirley (Anderson, Ind.) went 3-for-5 with two runs and recorded one RBI. Junior Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and one RBI. Junior Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Senior Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) and junior Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, Ky.) combined for Ohio's remaining three hits.

After a scoreless first, the Bobcats' bats came alive in the second. A pair of one-RBI doubles got Ohio on the board with two runs. Shirley followed with an RBI triple down the right field line, then raced home off a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead in the top of the second.

Two hits to start the fourth got the Bobcats in scoring position. Stack stole home for Ohio's fifth run, then a Bowling Green error allowed for another Bobcat to cross home for a 6-0 lead.

Bowling Green got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, then added to their total in the bottom of the sixth to set the score, 6-2.

Harris homered over the left field fence for a two-run home run for an 8-2 lead in the top of the seventh.

The Falcons responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the Bobcat lead, but failed to score again, securing the win for the Bobcats, 8-5.

Up next, Ohio will finish its series with Bowling Green on Sunday, March 22. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
