ATHENS, Ohio— Junior point guard Jackson Paveletzke (Kimberly, Wis.) has emerged as a key player for the Bobcats this season.
Paveletzke's journey to Athens had a few detours. After growing up at Kimberly High School, he began his collegiate career at Wofford College, where he earned Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors. He then transferred to Iowa State, and Paveletzke achieved his childhood dream of playing in the NCAA Tournament after his team won the Big 12 Championship.
However, Paveletzke sought a fresh start. He entered the transfer portal after the season and found a new home with the Bobcats.
What have you loved most about being a Bobcat so far?
Paveletzke: I love playing with the guys. It's a great system. The coaches have given me a lot of freedom as a point guard and leader, and it's made me feel like myself again.
How did you feel during your 28-point career-high performance this past week?
Paveletzke: My teammates gave me a lot of confidence, which allowed me to think clearly and perform well. I was just focused on making plays for my team, and the 28 points were a bonus. It felt great.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Paveletzke: Surprisingly, I don't listen to music. Before home games, I'll relax in bed and play Block Blast on my phone. I'm also very superstitious—I like to wear the same socks, compressions, and undershirt.
What do you enjoy doing after games?
Paveletzke: After home games, I love going back into the coaches' office and sharing a meal with the managers and staff. It's a great way to unwind and connect after a long game.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life, both on and off the court?
Paveletzke: I've got to give credit to my dad. He coached me through childhood until high school and has always been there when I needed him. Even though my parents live nine and a half hours from Athens, they still make the effort to drive to as many games as possible. My dad taught me everything I know about basketball.
What hobbies do you enjoy outside of basketball?
Paveletzke: In the summer, I love fishing and finding new ponds and lakes around Athens. I've also gotten into golfing—it helps me clear my mind and step away from basketball.

What's the best advice you've learned at Ohio University?
Paveletzke: The coaches have taught me that nobody is ever going to be perfect on the court. Learning how to play through mistakes and taking it one game at a time has been a big lesson. They've also emphasized the importance of daily habits. Consistency in my habits off the court has shown me how it translates to success on the court.
