ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team has released its 2024 schedule, as announced by head coach
Craig Moore on Friday, Dec. 8. The Bobcats will host 23 games at Bob Wren Stadium and will play a total of 30 Mid-American Conference matchups.
"This schedule will provide our team with many great opportunities to go against some of the top programs in the Southern part of the country early on and prepare us for our conference schedule. We open the year with back-to-back weekends against two regional teams from a year ago in Lipscomb and Campbell. I expect both teams to compete for top spots in their respective leagues. Then you add in a Virginia Tech team that two years ago was playing in a Super Regional and it makes the non-conference weekends one of the more challenging than we have had in the past," said Moore.
Ohio will start the season in Nashville, Tenn. with three days of games against Lipscomb University (Feb. 16-18), including a doubleheader. The Bobcats will conclude their time in the Southern Region with a three-game series against Campbell University (Feb. 23-25).
"We are also excited to add a few teams that we haven't played in a few years in Dayton, Youngstown State, and Northern Kentucky to our midweek schedule. This non-conference schedule will definitely prepare us for our conference weekends. We want to play the type of teams that are going to be very similar to the programs in the MAC. I believe that the conference this year will be as strong as it has been from top to bottom in a few years. As a team, we are working our way back to getting to Avon and competing for a MAC Championship," said Moore.
Ohio will head back to Athens for its home opener series versus the University of Illinois Chicago (March 1-3) at Bob Wren Stadium. The Bobcats are set to host a total of eight games at home in March including two matchups with conference foes, Northern Illinois University (March 8-10) and Kent State University (March 15-17). Ohio will also travel to compete against MAC opponents, Central Michigan University (March 22-24) and Ball State University (March 28-30).
The Bobcats will kick off April at home with a conference series versus Western Michigan University (April 5-7) and one non-conference game against Northern Kentucky (April 9) before playing seven games on the road. Those games will be played against two MAC teams, Eastern Michigan University (April 12-14) and Bowling Green (April 19-21), in addition to a game at the University of Dayton (April 17). Ohio will conclude April at home with a game versus Morehead State University (April 23) and a conference series against the University of Toledo (April 26-28).
Competition in May will begin with Ohio heading down to Blacksburg, Va. for a non-conference series with Virginia Tech (May 4-5). The Bobcats will stay on the road, traveling to Marshall University (May 8) and finishing at Miami University (OH) (May 10-12). A week later, Ohio will face Marshall again in a midweek matchup on May 14. The Bobcats will conclude the regular season with their final conference series versus the University of Akron (May 16-18) at Bob Wren Stadium.
