Ohio Baseball's 1997 Championship Team Returning to Bob Wren on Saturday

ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio baseball team will be honoring the 1997 Championship team between games on Saturday (April 23).Â
After earning regular-season accolades, the Bobcats won the 1997 MAC Tournament before advancing to the NCAA Mid-East Regionals in Stillwater, Okla. To this day, the 1997 team holds the record for most wins (43).Â

1997 was a record-breaking year for Bobcats baseball, setting multiple individual hitting records, some of which still stand. Jason Graham remains among the top ten in single season records for hits (87) and runs scored (62); Scott Malinowski hit a record-setting number doubles (21) and is currently tied at third in program history while Brady Gick's 56 RBIs in a season is tied at seventh.

On the mound, the 1997 pitching staff made their mark a well. Robert Sismondo is fourth in program history in innings pitched (101) and strikeouts (106). Schubmehl is among six Ohio pitchers to record a 1.000 winning percentage, finishing the 1997 season 10-0.Â

Gick, Graham, Schubmehl, Sismondo and Jake Eye were named All-District IV/All Mideast Region; Miller was named Third Team All-American.Â
