YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Ohio baseball team (10-42, 7-24 MAC) took on the Eastern Michigan Eagles (18-33, 11-20 MAC) in the opening game of the final series of the year for the Bobcats, falling by a score of 4-0 on Thursday, May 14.Â
The Bobcats did not score a run despite racking up eight hits, and they did not commit an error, while the Eagles scored four runs on 11 hits while not committing an error.Â
On the bump to start the game for Ohio was freshman right Mason Gass (Oakdale, Pa.). Gass went over four innings after allowing nine hits and four runs.Â
In the top of the first, the Bobcats threatened after senior infielder Reese Harmon (Columbus, In.) and junior outfielder Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.) successfully completed the double steal of second and third, respectively.Â
They were left stranded to end the inning, but Gass responded with scoreless first and second innings of work to keep the game tied going into the third inning.
Â
Junior outfielder Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, Ky.) would single to start the top of the third, but back-to-back strikeouts would prevent him from scoring as well.Â
The Eagles would get on the board in the bottom of the inning, as a two RBI single would give them a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth.Â
After a scoreless fourth inning, Eastern Michigan would score two more in the fifth with an RBI double and an RBI single to make its lead 4-0.
Senior lefty Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio) would enter the game in the bottom of the fifth and prevent any more runs in the inning. Ohio failed to respond in the top of the sixth, but
Masters would again throw a scoreless frame in the sixth to keep the score at 4-0.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Harris would make an impressive diving catch in center and senior lefty Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) would enter the game on the mound to prevent any more Eastern Michigan scoring.Â
The Bobcats would get just one more hit throughout the eighth and ninth innings, failing to score a run, falling to Eastern Michigan 4-0.Â
Up next, Ohio will return to action tomorrow (May 15) against the Eagles in its second-to-last game of the season. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET, and it can be seen on ESPN+.Â
