MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ohio softball team (16-17, 12-12 MAC) returned to action on Friday (April 23), dropping both games of a doubleheader to Mid Ball State (24-11, 18-1 MAC). The Bobcats dropped game one, 4-2, before falling 3-2 in the second game. 

GAME ONE: Ball State 4, Ohio 2 
Ohio out-hit Ball State, 7-6 and left nine runners on compared to BSU's four. Senior outfielder Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases, while senior short stop Katie Yun (North Canton, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore catcher Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio) added a hit, while junior outfielder Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) recorded a double and freshman outfielder Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) added a base hit for Ohio. 

Ohio struck first in the top of the first inning. After Englant and Yun both reached. Englant scored on a sacrifice fly from graduate student Mikenzie Vaughn (Kennesaw, Ga.). Moments later, Bernard singled, scoring Yun, giving Ohio an early 2-0 lead. 

Ball State cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second inning, before taking a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a three-run home run from graduate student Gabby Magnifico. 

The Bobcats threatened to cut into the Cardinals' lead in the top of the sixth inning, putting two runners on. However, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize on the chance. The Bobcats threatened again in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases. However, Ohio was unable to score, falling 4-2.  

In the circle, junior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif) got the start, pinching six innings, allowing four run on six hits, walked two and struck out one. For Ball State, junior Tieghan Morio got the start, pitching six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four. Graduate student Alyssa Rothwell pitched one innings, allowing no runs on two hits to earn the save. 

GAME TWO: Ball State 3, Ohio 2
Ohio and Ball State were even with five hits each. Meanwhile, freshman infielder Tori O'Brien (Mason, Ohio) led the Bobcats with two hits, while scoring one run. Yun added a hit, a homerun and two RBI, while Bernard added two more hits to her total on the day. 

Ohio got the first hit of the game in the top of the third inning on a single from O'Brien, however, the Cardinals got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on an RBI single from graduate student Janae Hogg, putting Ball State up 1-0. 

The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, taking the lead on a two-run homerun from Yun, putting the Bobcats up 2-1. 

Ball State tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, before scoring in the bottom of the seven on a sacrifice fly to take the game, 3-2. 

In the circle, senior Madi McCrady (Brimfield, Ohio) got the start, pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, two earned, while walking two and striking out five. For Ball State, the trip of Rothwell, senior Darcie Huber and sophomore Deborah Jones pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven.
