ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (16-15, 12-10 MAC) dominated in their doubleheader against Akron (3-29, 2-16 MAC) Tuesday afternoon (April 20) at the Ohio Softball Field. Ohio took game one 9-1 in five innings and took game by the final of 7-1.
"Morale is going to be high after two wins like today," third-year head coach Kenzie Roark said. "Everyone came with a lot of excitement today and put up a lot of runs. So it was a fun time today. Both pitchers came to play and looked really good. They attacked the strike zone and trusted their stuff."
GAME ONE: Ohio 9, Akron 1 (5 Innings)
The Bobcats out-hit the Zips, 10-4 and registered three doubles.
Individually, junior outfielder Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) recorded three RBI while sophomore designated player Alexis Dawe (Valley Springs, Calif.) and freshman outfielder Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) added two RBI a piece.
The Bobcats got the scoring started in the second after a double from Fogue brought in sophomore catcher Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio) and junior third baseman Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.). Dawe posted a double of her own to bring in Fogue, and later went on to score off of a single from senior short stop Katie Yun (North Canton, Ohio). Walker stole home to put Ohio up 5-0 at the conclusion of the inning.
Despite the Zips effort in the fourth, they were only able to bring in a run.
The Bobcats came back alive in the fifth to finish the game. Fogue singled through the left side, allowing freshman pitch runner Tori O'Brien (Mason, Ohio) to score. Dawe followed with a single to right center, bringing in junior first baseman Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas). A double from Walker brought Dawe and Fogue home to end the game.
Junior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) pitched all five innings for the Bobcats, allowing only four hits and one run.
GAME 2: Ohio 7, Akron 1
Ohio edged out the Zips, 5-4 in hits and had no errors compared to Akron's three. Spacek led the team with three at bats, two hits, and two RBI.

In the third, the Zips crushed a homer to left field, but were unable to put anymore runs on the board.
The Bobcats countered in the bottom half, with senior catcher Brooke Rice (Mason, Ohio) and Walker scoring to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead. Ohio added two more in the bottom of the fourth and recorded the final run of the game after Paoli doubled out to second to bring in O'Brien in the fifth.
