ATHENS, Ohio
 – The Ohio field hockey team (6-10, 3-3 MAC) dropped a thrilling back-and-forth battle against Miami (8-10, 5-1 MAC), 4-3, in double overtime Friday afternoon at Pruitt Field.

The RedHawks opened the scoring in the second minute when Morgan Strum scored on an early penalty corner to put Miami up, 1-0.

The Bobcats were able to even the score before the end of the first quarter when junior Katelyn Whittle (Glennwood, Md.) scored on the penalty corner, which was assisted by graduate student Kaelyn Long (Hanover, Pa.), knotting the game at 1-1 after one quarter.

The Bobcats took the lead late in the second quarter when freshman Noa Desmaretz (Antwerp, Belgium) scored in the 25th minute to give Ohio the 2-1 lead. However, that lead was short-lived when Miami's Jenna Kirby scored the equalizer a minute later to tie the game at 2-2 going into the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Bobcats retook the lead late into the fourth quarter when graduate student Leah Warren (Hamilton, New Zealand) scored in the 55th minute off a penalty corner, which was assisted by Desmaretz and junior and junior Sienna Sakich (Powell, Ohio). Unfortunately, the Bobcats were unable to fend off the RedHawks' leading scorer, Claudia Negrete Garcia, when she tied the game with just under two minutes to go to forced overtime with the game tied at 3-3.

"They have some of the top goal scorers in the MAC and we have a few of the top goal scorers ourselves," head coach Ali Johnstone said. "I knew we were going to battle back and forth between the goal scorers in the MAC right now. The disappointing part is the defense."

After a scoreless first overtime period, Miami struck in the 73rd minute on Negrete Garcia's second goal of the game, giving the RedHawks the win.

Overall, Miami outshot the Bobcats, 18-11, with 12 on goal compared to Ohio's 10. Both teams recorded 10 corner shots.

Individually, Whittle scored one goal on four shots with three on goal, while Warren also registered one goal with two shots and two on goal. Desmaretz registered one goal and one assist on two shots on goal.

Starting keeper senior Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) got the start, playing the enter game, allowing four goals and making eight saves on 12 shots faced.

Ohio is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 24 when the Bobcats host Big 10 opponent Indiana. First touch is set for 11 a.m. at Pruitt Field.
