Ohio Field Hockey Adds Mary Huffman as Assistant Coach

ATHENS, Ohio –Ohio Field Hockey has announced the hiring of Bobcat alum Mary Huffman as an assistant coach, head coach Ali Johnstone announced today (June 24).Â
"We are extremely thrilled and privileged to have Mary return to our program," Johnstone said. "Her knowledge and love for Ohio University is unmatched.  She has an in-depth knowledge of our systems of play and has been part of the fabric of creating our one-of-a-kind culture." Â
Prior to joining the Bobcats as a coach, Huffman spent time as a NEXUS coach and spent six years a coach for the Fer De Lance Field Hockey Club, including spending summer of 2025 as an operations intern. While with Fer De Lance, Huffman traveled to tournaments such as Disney/Sunshine Showcase, Bash at the Beach, Shooting Star Thanksgiving, and Regional Tournaments. During her stint as an operation intern, Huffman gained experience by directing field hockey programming as a Club Supervisor, overseeing practice sessions, staff scheduling, facility management and smooth day-to-day operations.
"I'm incredibly excited to begin my coaching career at Ohio," Huffman said. "Athens has always felt like home, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to give back to the program and school that I love."Â
Huffman also spent three summers as a coach at All-American and Ohio field hockey camps, where she designed and led independent skills clinics for high schools while focusing on technical development, field vision, positioning and competitive decision-making.
Huffman is a 2026 graduate of Ohio University where she was a member of the field hockey program for four years. During her time, Huffman played in 26 games and had a career .556 shots on goal percentage.Â
