Ohio Field Hockey's Iona Roderick Selected for U21 Wales EuroHockey Championship Team

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio field hockey sophomore Iona Roderick (Cardiff, United Kingdom) has been selected to the Under-21 Wales Women's European Championship team (July 24). The 2026 U21 Women's European Championships will take place July 26-31 in Valencia, Spain.

The 2026 EuroHockey U21 Championships features both men's and women's teams. In addition to Wales, athletes from Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Scotland and Spain will also be competing for their respective countries. Roderick and Wales will open up the tournament with a game against third-ranked Belgium on Sunday, July 26. The remainder of Roderick's tournament schedule is listed below.

U21 EuroHockey Championships
July 26 - Wales vs. Belgium
July 28 – Wales vs. Ireland
July 29 – Wales vs. Germany

The top two teams from each pool will play semifinal matches on Friday, July 31. The winners from those games will face each other in the final on Saturday, Aug. 1. The losers from the two semifinals games will also face each other the same day. The bottom two teams in each pool are scheduled to play two consolation games each on the same day as the semifinals and finals.

Roderick previously competed with the U21 team at the 2025 FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile. Despite their pre-tournament world ranking of 20^th, Wales qualified for the playoffs. Roderick and the team ended the tournament with a respectable 14^th place finish, six spots higher than their previous ranking.
