Ohio Baseball Falls to Marshall in Extra Innings

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Ohio Baseball team (10-24, 5-7 MAC) fell to Marshall (20-15, 8-7 CUSA) in 11 innings, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon at Kennedy Field in Huntington.

Sophomore INF Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio) drove in all three runs for Ohio. Levy had a single that scored two in the sixth inning and walked in a run in the eighth. Levy was 1-for-3.

Redshirt sophomore Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Redshirt freshman OF Trevor Lukkes (Tustin, Calif.) crossed the plate twice and was 1-for-4. Freshman INF Zyon Avery (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman INF Ryan Strittmather (Vermillion, Ohio) also had singles.

Marshall scored first with a single from Elvis Peralta single to left field in the bottom of the third.

Ohio took the lead in the top of the sixth. Levy knocked in two RBI with a bloop single to center field that scored Richardson and junior INF Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio). Richardson reached on a single up the middle and Lukkes reached on an infield single down the third base line.

Marshall tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when Rey Pastrana had a single up the middle.

The Thundering Herd took the lead when Kyle Schaefer hit a home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh.

Ohio tied the game in the eighth inning. After a couple of errors put runners on second and third, Marshall intentionally walked senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) to load the bases. Levy then walked a run in to tie the game at 3-3.

The Thundering Herd won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning Tucker Linder had a single up the middle.

Freshman LHP Joe Rock (Aliquippa, Pa.) was the starter for Ohio. Rock tossed 5.0 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out four batters. Rock did not allow an extra base hit.

Redshirt senior Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich) allowed one earned run in 0.2 innings pitched.

Freshman Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) tossed 2.1 innings and allowed one earned run and struck out two batters.

Sophomore LHP Brett Manis pitched a scoreless ninth and 10th inning and fanned three batters while facing the minimum.

Sophomore RHP Chace Harris (New Marshfield, Ohio) got his first loss of the year after allowing one earned run in the bottom of the 11th.

Ohio will be back in action this weekend to continue Mid-American Conference play against Eastern Michigan. The series will start at EMU on Friday at 6 p.m.
