CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Ohio softball team continued action at the Carolina Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling to host North Carolina, 9-1 in six innings at Anderson Stadium.
The Tar Heels (13-4) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning; scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead early on.
The Bobcats (4-11) cut the score to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning when Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) scored when Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, M.D.) reached first on a fielder's choice.
However, UNC would get the run back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Taylor Wike to give the Tar Heels the 3-1 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning, UNC would take full control of the game, scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homerun to left center by Lauren Walker, helping give the Tar Hills the 9-1 six inning victory.
Overall at the plate, the Bobcats had one hit, a single by Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) in the third inning. Dalton, Gebele and Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) all reached base due to walks, with Geble registering Ohio's lone RBI.
In the circle, Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) pitched a third of an inning, allowing two runs. Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three, Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) threw an inning, allowing two runs on a hit and Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton, Ohio) pitched a third of an inning, giving up three runs on three hits.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Carolina Classic for an afternoon double-header. At 10 a.m. Ohio will take on Charlotte, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson at 12:30 p.m.
