GULFPORT, Miss. - The Ohio University softball team (12-4) took Texas State (13-5) to extra innings but suffered a 3-2 defeat on Saturday (March 1) at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic.
Texas State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a leadoff home run.
Ohio answered in the home half of the fifth when junior Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) belted a leadoff solo shot to left center to tie the game.
The score remained deadlocked at one-all after seven innings. Texas State broke the stalemate in the top of the eighth with two runs.
Ohio cut the deficit back to one run when senior Alyssa Wolfe (Junction City, Ohio) tagged up and scored from third on a two-out sacrifice fly to left, but that's as close as the Green & White got.
Gebele led Ohio's offense with two hits.
