ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio (9-9) softball team lost to Radford (15-12), 3-1, in the final round of the Winthrop Adidas Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Debbie Szalejko (Beavercreek, Ohio) scored Ohio's only run in the first inning. Szalejko led the inning off by advancing on a hit by pitch. She moved to second on a bunt and was scored in with a double to left field from Amanda Sacks (Chugiak, Alaska).
Radford scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and held a 2-1 advantage until scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend its lead to 3-1. Both teams were scoreless in the remaining three innings.
Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) pitched her fifth complete game of the season, taking the loss for the Bobcats. She struck out four batters, allowed six hits and two walks. Kristen Salvatore (Kirtland, Ohio) and Kelly Rodriguez were 2-for-3 on the game.
"We are disappointed with today's outcome but overall we had a great weekend," said Head Coach Jill Matyuch. "Radford capitalized on some uncharacteristic mistakes and we were not able to recover."
The Bobcats opened the tournament with wins over South Carolina State (9-0) and College of Charleston (11-7) and on day two the `Cats downed Winthrop (3-1) and College of Charleston (6-4).
Ohio will return to action on March 21 in a doubleheader at Fresno State.
