Steph Haas enters her sixth season as an assistant coach at Ohio in 2023-24.
In 2020-21, Haas helped coach Cece Hooks to an Honoroable Mention All-America honor, Ohio's first since 1986 when Caroline Mast was named the same. Hooks added the All-America honors to an already impressive list of awards. Hooks was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, MAC Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-MAC and MAC All-Defensive Team. Hooks finished the year ranked third in the nation in points per game and was just the second player in school history to record a triple-double after scoring 31 points, 11 assists and 10 steals against Miami.
Ohio made the WNIT in 2020-21 and won one game in the tournament when they took down Fordham, 81-64. The Bobcats finished the season 15-10.
In her second season at Ohio, Haas helped Ohio place three - Cece Hooks, Erica Johnson and Amani Burke - on the All-MAC team. Hooks and Johnson were First-Team All-MAC, while Hooks won MAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season after becoming the all-time steals leader in OU history as a junior. Ohio finished the season with a win in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals before the tournament and season were canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis. In non-conference play, Ohio took down Ohio State, 74-68, for the first time in program history on the road in Columbus.
Haas helped guide the Bobcats to a 30 win season and a round of eight appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Haas helped Ohio place three on the All-MAC list, with Cece Hooks making the first team and Erica Johnson and Amani Burke making the third team.
The Avon Lake, Ohio native spent the prior two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast as a Video Coordinator after a four-year playing career with the Eagles.
As video coordinator at FGCU, Haas oversaw all aspects of film breakdown and video needs. She was responsible for supplying the coaching staff with appropriate film for analysis and opponent scouting. Her responsibilities also included editing video and handling film exchange.
Haas began her four-year student-athlete career as a walk-on in the summer of 2012, earning a scholarship by the summer of 2013. During her time at FGCU, Haas was a two-time Atlantic Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a two-time member of the DI-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team.
On the court, Haas finished her career ranking top-10 in the program in career points (1138), field goals (414), free throws made (199) and rebounds (365) and became the university's ninth 1,000-point scorer in a win at NJIT on Feb. 13, 2016. Haas helped the Eagles to two NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and helped lead FGCU to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
On top of her athletic accolades, Haas was named a CoSIDA All-District 4 honoree in 2015. She appeared in all 34 games with 18 starts and averaged 22.3 minutes per game as a junior. Haas was named the team's Most Improved Player at the end of both her sophomore and freshman seasons with the Eagles. During her first year, she appeared in 32 games, making one start and averaged 12.0 minutes and 3.9 points, while shooting .353 from behind the arc.
Prior to her time at FGCU, Haas was a standout at Magnificat High School where she was a three-year letterwinner and averaged 19.7 points and nearly three assists a game to earn a third team All-Ohio selection as a senior. She helped led the Blue Streaks to a 20-4 record and a Division I District Championship, which was the program's first since 2002. As a junior, she averaged 14.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals and earned All-Ohio special mention, first team All-District and Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Week honors.
