OOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio baseball team (1-6, 0-0 MAC) dropped the series finale, 6-3, at Tennessee Tech (5-3, 0-0 OVC) on Sunday, Feb. 22.
Ohio tallied three runs on seven hits with two errors, while Tennessee Tech recorded six runs on eight hits and committed no errors.
Ohio was led at the plate by senior infielder Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario), who recorded two hits including an RBI double and a walk, in the contest. Fifth-year infielder Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.) was effective in the game by reaching base twice and tallying two stolen bases while also scoring a run.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Colton Landtiser (Pickerington, Ohio) made his first career start Sunday, hurling two and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Freshman right-hander Mason Gass (Oakdale, Pa.) ate a chunk of the innings out of the bullpen for the Bobcats, going four innings, allowing two earned runs while tallying two strikeouts.
Tennessee Tech struck first when they scored two runs in the second inning following a scoreless first by both squads. The Golden Eagles would add onto their lead again in the third with two runs to take a 4-0 advantage.
Ohio bounced back in the very next time at the plate with two runs of its own in the fifth inning. Back-to-back one out RBI's by Shepherd and junior catcher Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) are what got the Bobcats on the board following two hits to start the inning.
The score remained 4-2 through the middle innings as Ohio was unable to erase the deficit and Tennessee Tech was unable to add on. In the seventh, however, the Golden Eagles' offense came roaring back for two more runs to extend their lead to 6-2 heading into the eighth.
In the eighth inning, Ohio cut into the Tennessee Tech lead when redshirt junior infielder Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) singled with one out and later scored on a wild pitch in the inning to bring the score to 6-3.
Ohio was unable to score in the ninth and fell to Tennessee Tech, 6-3.
The Bobcats will return to the diamond this Wednesday, Feb. 25, traveling to Morgantown to take on West Virginia in a midweek matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
