
Martin Earns Podium Finish to Lead Ohio Women's Track & Field on Day 1 of MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's track and field team experienced success on day one of the MAC Outdoor Championships, highlighted by one podium finish, two finals qualifiers, a school record and a slew of career best performances.
Sophomore Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) kicked off the first day of competition in the heptathlon with three new PR's. Smith took fourth in the 200m (25.86, PR), sixth in the 100m hurdles (14.69, PR), 10th in the shot put (9.56m/31-4.5, PR) and 11th in the high jump (1.34m/4-4.75). After day one, she sits at ninth with a score of 2,642 points.
Freshman Ashley Cornathan (Hilliard, Ohio) competed in the women's hammer throw. Cornathan placed 14th after recording two PR's. She finished with a personal-best mark of 46.76 meters (153-5).
Sophomore Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) is once again a school record holder. Baumann placed ninth in the women's pole vault, recording a PR and new outdoor school record of 3.70 meters (12-1.5). Freshman Quin Zacamy finished 12th in the pole vault and tied the third best outdoor mark in program history with a new PR of 3.55 meters (11-7.75).
Ohio had two athletes qualify for the finals in the sprints and hurdles events. Freshman Ava Kincaid (Perrysburg, Ohio) recorded a major PR of 1:00.70 in the women's 400m hurdles preliminaries, placing second in her heat. Senior Taja Booker (Simpsonville, S.C.) ran a PR of 23.83 to earn her spot in the 200m finals.
Junior Allie Martin (Kingwood, W. Va.) made her debut in the women's 10,000 meters. Martin led Ohio, earning a podium finish with a fourth-place time of 35:35.22. Junior Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) placed eighth (36:20.28) and senior Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) placed 16th (38:07.10).
The Bobcats will be back in action for day two of the MAC Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 16.
