ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 MAC) defeated Wright State (4-3, 0-0 Horizon), 80-66, on Monday, Nov. 24 in the Convocation Center.
Ohio shot 40.6 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from the arc and 65.4 percent from the line. The Bobcats recorded 43 rebounds, 13 assists, 14 steals and one block.
Junior
Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) led the team in scoring with 19 points; shooting 5-for-9 from the field, 4-for-8 from the arc and 5-for-6 from the line. Tabeling also added six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Four other Bobcats finished with double-figure points.
Graduate student
Elli Garnett (Lakewood, Colo.) recorded a team-high seven rebounds, all defensive, and three assists. Redshirt sophomore
Monica Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) also tallied a team-high three assists.
Five different Bobcats finished with a team-high two steals.
The first period started with McWhorter's first three-point basket of the game, getting the Bobcats on the board. Ranallo and McWhorter kept this momentum, bringing the lead to 7-2 at the beginning of the game. Wright State took control of the lead at 13-11 with 2:31 left in the quarter. Tabeling cut the Raiders' lead to 19-16 with a three point basket at the end of the first quarter.
The second period began with another basket by Ranallo. Ohio's offense outperformed Wright State, 27-6, in the second quarter. McWhorter led the Bobcats with seven points this quarter, shooting 3-for-5 from the field. Ohio forced five turnovers by the Raiders and scored seven points off turnovers. Heading into the locker room, Ohio led Wright State 43-25.
Wright State saw more offensive success in the third quarter, outscoring Ohio 19-12. Despite the offensive pressure from the Raiders, Ohio was able to maintain a 55-44 lead heading into the final quarter of the game.
Ohio got back on track in the fourth quarter, outscoring Wright State 25-22. The Bobcats also recorded four steals and forced five turnovers. With 4:04 left in the game, Ohio led Wright State 64-44. Despite being within 10 points, the Raiders were unable to catch up with the Bobcats. In the final 15 seconds, Ohio extended its lead by five points with several free throw opportunities. Ohio came away with an 80-66 victory over Wright State.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Davidson on Sunday, Nov. 30. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
