Lynchburg, Virginia – The Ohio Swimming and Diving team returned to the Liberty Natatorium for day two of the TYR '85 Invite. After the second day of competition, the Bobcats remain in first place, with Junior
Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) and Junior
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) earning first-place finishes.
Ohio finished the day in first place with a score of 1927, followed by the hosts, Liberty, with a score of 1600, Campbell with a score of 961, UNC Pembroke with a score of 819, Saint Francis with a score of 635, California (PA) with a score of 414, Georgia Southern with a score of 154, and UNC-Asheville with a score of 59.
In the first event of the night, Pichardo earned a first-place finish in 3-meter diving with a score of 301.45.
During the swim portion of the meet, Ohio earned a second-place finish in the 4x50 yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.83. Freshman
Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), senior
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Szoke, and freshman
Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) competed in the relay for the Bobcats.
In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore
Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W.V.) finished in second place with a time of 54.23, and freshman
Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) finished in third place with a time of 55.31.
Seniors
Morgan Brown (Fort Wayne, Ind) and
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) both finished in the top five of the 400-yard IM. Brown finished in second place with a time of 4:24.05, and Ellsworth finished in fourth place with a time of 4:26.81.
Szoke took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.83. Freshman
Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 1:51.08, and sophomore
Ashlyn Morr finished in fifth place with a time of 1:51.96 (Galena, Ohio).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, DiBetta earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:00.45, and Ellsworth finished in third place with a time of 1:02.79.
Baumgartner and junior
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) both swam in the 100-yard backstroke, with Baumgartner finishing in third place with a time of 54.88 and Schweikert finishing in fourth place with a time of 55.21.
In the final event of the evening, the Bobcats' 4x200-yard freestyle relay of Kollin, Morr, junior
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.), and senior
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished in second place with a time of 7:30.03.
The Bobcats return to the pool tomorrow (Nov. 23) for the final day of the TYR '85 Invite, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. EST and finals beginning at 5:00 p.m. EST.
