ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio Swimming and Diving team returned to the Aquatic Center (Oct. 25) for the second day of the tri-meet with Buffalo and Marshall. The Bobcats earn their first two wins of the season, defeating Buffalo 213-147 and Marshall 247-106.
Day two of the tri-meet kicked off with 1-meter diving, where junior
Astrid Pichardo finished with a score of 255.55, placing fourth, and freshman
Bella Basford (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with a score of 244.25, placing fifth.
Ohio opened the swim portion of the meet, claiming first place in the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman
Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), Senior
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Junior
Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej), and freshman
Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) finished with a final time of 1:38.94.
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman
Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) earned a third-place finish, with a time of 4:57.79, and senior
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished in fourth with a time of 4:59.25.
The Bobcats had three swimmers place in the top-five in the 100-yard back, including Baumgartner, who finished in second with a time of 55.02, junior
Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio finished in third with a time of 55.18, and senior
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) finished in fourth place with a time of 55.85.
Ohio claimed three of the top-five spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Dibetta placing first with a time of 1:01.06, senior
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:03.98, and freshman
Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, Ariz) finishing in fifth with a time of 1:04.31.
In the 100-yard fly, sophomore
Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va) claimed first place with a time of 53.97, and freshman
Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) finished in fourth place with a time of 55.04.
In the 200-yard free, junior
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) finished in third place with a time of 1:52.11.
Ellsworth took second place in the 400-yard IM, with a time of 4:23.44.
In the final event of the day, Ohio claimed first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Wittenberg, Szoke, Claypoole, and Buroker finished with a time of 3:20.51.
Ohio returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 7
th, at Ball State at 5 p.m. in Muncie, Ind.
