
Ohio Swim and Dive Defeats Ball State on the Road

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ohio swimming and diving team traveled to Muncie, Indiana, on Friday (Nov. 7) to take on Ball State in MAC competition. The Bobcats defeat the Cardinals 152-148 in a close meet to pick up their third straight win of the season. Freshman Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) sets a pool record and junior Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) qualifies for the NCAA Diving Zones in the 1M dive in the victory.
Ohio opened up the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), freshman Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, AZ), Sophomore Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, WV), and freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) finished with a time of 1:45.05.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Ohio had three Bobcats finish in the top five. Sophomore Ashlyn Morr (Galena, Ohio) finished in second place with a time of 10:35.23, freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in fourth place with a time of 10:38.10, and junior Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 10:39.96.
Junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) finished in first place in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:50.10. Junior Katie Buroker (Zionsville, IN) also finished in the top five with a time of 1:55.27, placing fourth.
In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) finished in second place with a time of 57.63, and senior Allison Schrank (Blaine, MN) finished in fifth place with a time of 57.97.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, two Bobcats finished in the top five, with senior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) placing second with a time of 1:05.40, and Daigneault finished in third place with a time of 1:06.15.
Macik placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.25, which set a pool record at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. Junior Isabella Arbaugh (Ann Arbor, MI) finished in fifth place with a time of 2:09.28.
Szoke was the top finisher in the 50-yard free with a time of 23.31, and Wittenberg finished in third place with a time of 24.41.
In 3M diving, Pichardo was the highest finishing Bobcat with a score of 272.10. Pichardo finished in second place. Freshman Alyssa Kiszczak (Thousand Oaks, CA) finished in third place with a score of 234.15.
In the 100-yard free, three Bobcats placed inside the top five. Szoke was the highest Ohio finisher, in second place, with a time of 50.95. Buroker finished in third place with a time of 52.77, and Wittenberg finished in fourth place with a time of 52.78.
Sophomore Juliana Slaninka (Mentor, Ohio) and Schweikert took the top two finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Slaninka finished in first place with a time of 2:02.97, and Schweikert finished in second with a time of 2:03.73.
Ellsworth was the top finisher in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.81, and freshman Reese Benton (Dunwoody, Ga.) finished in fifth place with a time of 2:32.06.
Senior Anna McGrath finished the 500-yard free in first place with a time of 5:08.22. Kollin finished behind McGrath in second place with a time of 5:08.58, and Morr finished in fourth place with a time of 5:11.79.
Three Bobcats finished in the top five in the 100-yard butterfly, with Claypoole claiming first place with a time of 55.74. Macik finished in third place with a time of 56.23, and Schrank finished in fifth place with a time of 59.53.
In 1M diving, Pichardo was the top Bobcat finisher with a score of 271.28, which qualifies her for NCAA Zone Cuts. Sophomore Annie Haluch (Hudson, Ohio) finished in second place with a score of 232.58, and freshman Bella Basford (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished in fourth place with a score of 230.33.
Ellsworth finished the 200 IM in second place with a time of 2:07.21, and Daigneault finished in third place with a time of 2:07.66.
In the final event of the meet, Wittenberg, Szoke, Claypoole, and Buroker competed in the 200-yard free relay and finished in first place with a time of 1:33.82.
The Bobcats return to the pool on Nov. 20-Nov. 23 at the TYR '85 Invite, hosted by Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Va.
