Ohio Women's Track & Field Concludes Akron Invite & Day 1 of Meyo Invite

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's track & field team had athletes compete at two different meets on Friday, Jan. 31. A group of Bobcats kicked off the first day of the Meyo Invitational and the rest of the team represented Ohio at the Akron Invitational.
Meyo Invitational (Day 1)
Ohio only competed in one event on the first day of the Meyo Invitational. Freshman Kaitlyn Stewart (Floyd Knobs, Ind.), freshman Jaclyn Garvey (Grand Blanc, Mich.), junior Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) and sophomore Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) placed fourth in the women's distance medley relay with a season-best time of 11:37.42.
Akron Invitational
Ohio started off the meet with the 60m and 60m hurdles preliminaries.
In the 60m preliminaries, junior Rhiea Gordon (Youngstown, Ohio) qualified for the finals with a fifth-place time of 7.87. Gordon went on to place seventh in the finals with a personal-best time of 7.81.
In the 60m hurdles preliminaries, sophomore Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) qualified for the finals with a sixth-place time of 9.22. Smith went on to place sixth in the finals with a time of 9.28.
Junior Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio) was Ohio's lone runner in the women's 3,000 meters. Roth placed eighth with a time of 5:15.64.
Ohio has two athletes place in the top three of the women's 800m. Sophomore Abby Wells (Hilliard, Ohio) placed second (2:19.70) and junior Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) placed third (2:19.78). Freshman Elyana Weaver finished ninth with a PR of 2:24.07 and freshman Ava Tominak (Gahanna, Ohio) finished in 13th place.
A large group of Bobcats competed in the women's 200m with senior Taja Booker (Simpsonville, S.C.) leading the way in third place (24.76). Sophomore Jordyn Baxter (Atlanta, Ga.) also placed in the top 15, finishing 13th with a PR of 25.65.
Ohio kicked off competition in the field events with the women's pole vault. Sophomore Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) placed fifth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.53 meters (11-7).
Three Bobcats competed in the women's jumps events. In the women's long jump, Smith placed fourth with a PR of 5.23 meters (17-2) and freshman Kami Ayoup (Copley, Ohio) placed sixth with a PR of 5.13 meters (16-10). Freshman Elisabeth Franczyk (Washington, Pa.) took home second place in the women's triple jump with a PR of 11.00 meters (36-1.25).
Senior Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) led Ohio in the throws with a fourth-place finish in the women's shot put (12.41m/40-8.75). In the women's weight throw, freshman Ashley Cornathan (Hilliard, Ohio) was Ohio's top performer with a 15th place finish (13.40m/43-11.75).
The Bobcats will continue competition at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1.
