Ohio Women's Track & Field Concludes Competition at the Falcon Early Bird Open

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio women's track & field team represented well at its first meet of the year, the Falcon Early Bird Open, on Friday, Jan. 10.
 
The Bobcats started the meet with several field events. Ohio swept the women's pole vault with sophomore Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) winning the event (3.50m/11-5.75). Freshman Quin Zacamy placed second (3.35m/10-11.75) and sophomore Abigail Cornell (Wake Forest, N.C.) placed third (3.20m/10-6).
 
Five Bobcats placed in the top 10 of the women's shot put. Senior Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) led Ohio in the event with a fourth-place finish (12.53m/41-1.50). Freshman Lauren Mader (Green Bay, Wis.) took home sixth (11.48m/37-8), freshman Ashley Cornathan (Hilliard, Ohio) finished seventh (11.05m/36-3) and freshman Emma Hayes (Pomeroy, Ohio) came in eighth place (10.67m/35-0.25). Freshman Remy Hartford (Toledo, Ohio) finished in 10th place with a mark of 9.89 meters (32-5.50).
 
Cornathan and Mader also competed in the women's weight throw. Cornathan finished ninth (13.50m/44-3.5) and Mader finished 10th (12.23m/40-1.50). Ohio also had freshman Elisabeth Franczyk (Washington, Pa.) compete in the women's triple jump, placing second with a mark of 10.82 meters (35-6).
 
Sophomore Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) was a top performer for Ohio in the track events. Greenwell won the women's mile with a time of 4:51.94 and placed second in the women's 800m with a time of 2:14.21.
 
Two Bobcats, sophomore Jordyn Baxter (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Alex Kessen (Delphos, Ohio) qualified for the women's 60-meter finals. Baxter placed fifth in the preliminaries with a personal-best time of 7.89 but ultimately did not race in the finals. Kessen placed sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 7.94 and ended up in fifth place in the finals with a time of 8.01.
 
In the women's 300m, junior Rhiea Gordon (Youngstown, Ohio) was Ohio's top finisher. Gordon placed second with a time of 42.76.
 
Sophomore Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) placed fourth in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.31.
 
Three Bobcats placed in the top five of the women's 3,000 meters. Senior Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) placed second (10:08.89), sophomore Eliza Streit (Plain City, Ohio) placed fourth (10:32.78) and junior Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio) finished fifth (10:34.03).
 
The Bobcats will be back in action at the Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, Jan. 17.
