
Ohio Football Falls to Kentucky, 41-6

LEXINGTON, Ky.— The Ohio football program (2-2) closed non-conference play against the Kentucky Wildcats (2-2) at Kroger Field today (Sept. 21), falling 41-6.Â

Redshirt junior Nick Poulos (Granite Bay, Calif.) made his first start as a Bobcat, going 8-for-19 with 110 yards through the air. On the ground, Poulos finished the game with five carries on 25 yards. Redshirt freshman running back Rickey Hunt Jr. (Oklahoma City, Okla.) scored Ohio's only touchdown of the day, finishing with 22 carries on 21 rushing yards. Freshman running back Duncan Brune (Cologne, Germany) and graduate student running back Anthony Tyus III (Portage, Mich.) recorded six and eight carries, respectively.Â

In the air, graduate student wide receiver Coleman Owen (Gilbert, Ariz) finished the day with 54 yards on four receptions while sophomore wide receiver Chase Hendricks (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded two catches on 35 yards.Â

Defensively, graduate student safety Dustin Johnson (Denver, Colo.) led the Bobcats with 11 total tackles — including seven solo stops. Redshirt junior linebacker Shay Taylor (Mount Perry, Ohio) was just behind Johnson with nine tackles on the day and a quarterback hurry. Graduate student defensive end Marcel Walker-Burgess (Piscataway, N.J.) and graduate student linebacker Blake Leake (Culpeper, Va.) each recorded 7 tackles, with Walker-Burgess tacking on the sole forced fumble of the game for Ohio.Â

After back-to-back drives ending in punts, Kentucky struck first with a 30-yard field goal. The Wildcats opened the second quarter with their first touchdown of the day, taking a 10-0 lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown with 14:39 remaining in the half. Kentucky continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, wrapping up an eight-play, 80-yard drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Â

The Wildcats' momentum carried into the third quarter, tacking on another three points with a 34-yard field goal. The following drive, Kentucky made the most of an interception, scored and leaving Ohio trailing, 27-0.Â

The Bobcats opened the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown from Hunt, wrapping up a five-play, 51-yard drive with a one-yard rush into the end zone. Kentucky bounced back the next drive, matching Ohio's touchdown with one of their own to take a 34-6 lead. The Wildcats squeezed one more rushing touchdown to close the game, putting the final score at 41-6.Â
