GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Ohio Women's Golf team completed the second round of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships this afternoon (Apr. 22). The Bobcats moved up to a tie for seventh from ninth place where they were led by an impressive performance from freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) who shot a 73 (+1) to move up the leaderboard. Luebbers' score was the best of any competitor on the day.
Despite an hour and a half delay due to frost, Monday's conditions proved to be better than the brisk Sunday weather. The sun was out the entirety of the round, providing the participants with warmer weather and lighter winds.
Overall, the Bobcats had a score of 316 (+28), improving by five strokes. Ohio is tied with Bowling Green in eighth, while Kent State continues to lead by two strokes. Entering the tournament, the Golden Flashes have won every single MAC Championship, ever. Individually, Kent's Leon Takagi remains in the lead after a two-over day one-under day to put her at 145 (+1) for the tournament.Â
Luebbers led the Bobcats in the second round, shooting a 73 (+1) with three birdies. The freshman capitalized on the momentum from the first round's final hole eagle to climb the leaderboard into a tie for 10th. She will enter tomorrow's final round as Ohio's final golfer of the Bobcats' five tee-times.Â
Freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) is in a tie for 19th after the second day. Rodgers had an 82 (+10) on the day with two birdies. Rodgers will be the second golfer in the lineup for the Bobcats.
Tying her first round, Mackenzie McRee had an 80 (+8) in her second round of the tournament. McRee remains in a tie for 26th after the first two days.
In fourth place for Ohio, senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finds herself in a tie for 42nd. Vega-Rivera improved her score in the second round, finishing with an 82 (+10). The senior will play her final round for the Bobcats tomorrow to close out the tournament.Â
Rounding out the performers for the second day of the tournament, junior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.) finished with an 88 (+16) on the day.
Ohio will look to continue to climb the leaderboard tomorrow (Apr. 23) in the final round of the 2024 MAC Women's Golf Championships. The Bobcats will begin their round starting at 9:30 a.m. on the back nine. The top six teams, Kent State, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Akron, Central Michigan, and Ball State, will tee off on the front nine beginning at 9:00 a.m.Â
