
Ohio Women's Golf Places Sixth at 2024 MAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Ohio Women's Golf team wrapped up competition today (Apr. 23) at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships. After a strong final round, the Bobcats claimed 6th overall. Individually, Ohio was led by sophomore Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Ariz.) and freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) who tied for 14th. Â
The three-day tournament, hosted by the Bobcats at Pinnacle Golf Club, posed a challenge to each of the competitors across the three rounds. Ultimately, Kent State reigned supreme for the 25th consecutive season. The Golden Flashes shot a 909 (+45) as a team over the three days.
Individually, two Golden Flashes shared the title: Hunter Sicking and, the 2023 MAC Champion, Leon Takagi. The pair finished the tournament with a total of 222 (+6).Â
As a team, the Bobcats total score was put together through rounds of 321, 316, and 314, showing improvement through each of the rounds. Ohio was the best team on par threes in the tournament, averaging a 3.28 on the holes across the three rounds. The sixth place finish was the program's best since a tied third place finish at the 2017 MAC Championships.Â
After the three rounds, McRee and Luebbers completed the tournament with total scores of 235 (+19). In the final round, McRee jumped 12 spots to claim a spot in the top-15.
Overall, Luebbers had rounds of 81 (+9), 73 (+1), and 81 (+9) to cap off her strong freshman campaign. Luebbers was one of four players to record an eagle during the tournament and led all Bobcat golfers on scoring in par fours. She also led the team in birdies with six.Â
McRee began her tournament with back-to-back rounds of 80 (+8), before finishing with an impressive 75 (+3) to round out the tournament. Despite recording only one birdie across the three days, McRee's consistency and outstanding performances on par threes helped her remain in the hunt. Her 39 pars across the three rounds were tied for the tournament lead.Â
Also finding herself in the top-25 was freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) after a total score of 241 (+26). Rodgers had rounds of 78 (+6), 81 (+9), and 82 (+10) to round out her first MAC Tournament. She was above average in birdies with five and had strong performances on par threes.
Senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) rounded out her collegiate career with a tie for 34th finish. The senior improved each round, beginning her first round with an 85 (+13), second with an 82 (+10), before finishing with a 76 (+4) on the final day. Alongside McRee, Vega-Rivera was the second best on par threes of all competitors.Â
Completing the lineup for Ohio was junior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.), placing in a tie for 42nd. Longstreth opened her tournament with an 82 (+10) and followed with rounds of 88 (+16) and 82. Longstreth was impressive on par fives, finishing even par for the week.The MAC Championships will close out the season for Ohio Women's Golf. The Bobcats showed impressive growth throughout the season and will return in the fall for the 2024-25 season.
