
Ohio Women's Golf Finishes First Round at 2024 MAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Ohio – This afternoon (Apr. 21), the Ohio Women's Golf team wrapped up the first round at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships. The Bobcats, who are serving as hosts of the tournament, had a team score of 321, finishing the round in ninth place. Individually, freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) leads the green and white in a tie for 14th- place.Â
Kent State leads the tournament after the first day with a score of 296 (+8). The tournament is led by two Golden Flashes, the 2023 Individual MAC Champion Leon Takagi and Veronika Kedronova who both shot 71s (-1).Â
The tournament is taking place at Pinnacle Golf Club where the course is set to 6,002 yards and a par of 72. A brisk and slightly breezy day posed a slight challenge to the golfers on the course.Â
Rodgers was the leading golfer for Ohio on the day, shooting a 78 (+6) to earn her spot in the top-15. She was helped by strong performances on par fives and threes. She will be Ohio's last golfer to tee off in tomorrow's round two.Â
After a round of 80 (+8), sophomore Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Ariz.) finds herself in a tie for 26th. Consistent play with 12 pars, which ties for the tournament lead, helped McRee finish in the top-30.Â
Freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) is in a tie for 33rd after the first round. Luebbers shot an 81 (+9), but had significant improvement on the back nine closing out the round with the Bobcats' only eagle of the day.
Finding herself in a tie for 36th, junior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.) finished her opening round with a score of 82 (+10). The junior was impressive on par threes, remaining even par through four holes.Â
Also even par on the four par threes today was senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio). Vega-Rivera shot an 85 (+13) on the day, finishing in 43rd after the opening round.Â
The second round of the 2024 MAC Women's Golf Championships will resume tomorrow (Apr. 22) at 9:30 a.m.Â
