ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio men's basketball team (3-5) defeated Robert Morris University (6-3) 84-68 on Saturday, Nov. 30 in The Convo.
While RMU did get possession after the tip-off and the first points of the game, Ohio was not slow to score and gain the lead. The first two points were scored by junior forward Aidan Hadaway ( Lafayette, Ga.). It took Ohio a few minutes to get going, but it did not lose the lead once it had it. After halftime, Ohio continued that streak, and scored the first two points of the half.
The Bobcats were in the lead for 38 minutes of the game which was due to the team working together -- especially for senior forward AJ Clayton's (Roseville, Ohio) dunk in the second half.
RMU struggled at the rim and ended the afternoon with a 40.7% field goal percentage. That against Ohio's 51.8% led RMU to fall.
Near the end, Ohio started to give up more points to RMU as it caught a few scoring runs, but it could not catch up to the home team.
Clayton led the Bobcat with 16 points, seven rebounds and two 3-pointers. He was 6-for-14 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line. Clayton's performance was closely followed by graduate student forward Vic Searls (Hilliard, Ohio). Searls was a strong player in the game today with a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds, as well as one 3-pointer. Searls shot 5-for-7 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line.
Junior guard Jackson Paveletzke (Kimberly, Wis.) also contributed to the Bobcats' attack. Twice in the game, he ran across the court to make an unexpected shot which forced the Colonials to foul. Paveletzke ended the afternoon 4-for-9 in field goals and 3-for-4 from the line.
With 14 seconds left in the game, freshman guard Elijah Elliott (Orlando, Fla.) scored two points to bring the score to its final of 84-68. Elliott finished the afternoon 2-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line with two assists.
Ohio will be back in action on Dec.7 to play Morehead State in The Convo at 4 p.m. This match will be available to watch in the Convocation Center and on ESPN+.
