Ohio Women's Golf Wins Rocket Classic; McRee Wins Individual Title

PORT CLINTON, Ohio. – The Ohio women's golf team won the team championship at the 2024 Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo on Sept 30 - Oct 1 at the Catawba Island Club, marking the first team title since the 2017 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational. The Bobcats overall score was 906 (+42), while junior Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Ariz) earned the individual championship with her first-place finish. 
 
Finishing behind Ohio was Akron (+45), Toledo (+46), Purdue Fort Wayne (+51) and Central Michigan (+55). 
 
As a team, Ohio opened the first round on Monday with a 309, followed by a 302 in the second round. The Bobcats concluded the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 295, the lowest round of the day. 
 
Individually, McRee led the Bobcats, recording rounds of 76 and 72 on day one, before finishing Tuesday with a 73 for a total tournament score of 221 (+5) and her first-place finish. 
 
Sophomore Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) was next, finishing tied for fifth after shooting scores of 75 and 76 on Monday, before concluding the event with a 74 for a total of 225 (+9). Senior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.) and sophomore, Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) both tied for 18th overall. Rodgers opened the tournament with an 80 and a 76 on Monday, and concluded the tournament with a round of 74 for an overall score of 230 (+14). Longstreth also finished the tournament 14-over (78+78+74=230). 
 
Sophomore Anna Coccia (New Albany, Ohio) finished tied for 36th overall. Coccia opened the tournament with an 80, before finishing round two with an 80 and round three with a 79, finishing the weekend with a 239 (+23).
 
Playing as an individual for the Bobcats was freshman Saylor Wharff (Marietta, Ohio) who finished tied for 14th. Wharff opened the weekend with a 75 in round one, before shooting an 80 and a 74 in the final two rounds for a two-day total of 229 (+13). 
 
The Bobcats are back in action Oct. 7-8 at the 2024 Bronco Fall Classic. The two-day event is hosted by Western Michigan in Portage Mich. at Moors Golf Club.
