BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio cross country teams competed in its second meet of the season as the Bobcats traveled to Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Friday, Sept. 15. The Bobcats earned several impressive finishes with the women placing second and the men placing third.
The women's team recorded 60 points behind five top 25 finishes. The first Bobcat to cross the finish line was sophomore Alyssa Mason (21.13.19/Dublin, Ohio) who placed fifth overall. Junior Theresa Hagey (21.26.97/Akron, Ohio) and sophomore Leila Boussedra (21.35.69/Worthington, Ohio) rounded out the top ten, finishing seventh and ninth.
Junior Sarah Liederbach (22.00.86/Petoskey, Mich.) and sophomore Allie Martin (22.02.67/Kingwood, W.Va.) crossed the finish line back-to-back placing 20th and 21st.
Fifth year Carina Weaver (22.11.29/Lexington, Ohio), sophomore Sara Doughman (22.32.78/South Lebanon, Ohio), and sophomore Morgan Roth (22.45.38/Brunswick, Ohio) all contributed points with top 40 finishes.
The men's team tallied 58 points with six top 25 finishes. The Bobcats were led by senior Tony Tonkovich (25.05.89/Athens, Ohio), who recorded a fourth-place finish. Following behind was sophomore Rocco DeVincent (25.42.20/Morgantown, W. Va.) in 13th place, freshman Charlie Slates (25.44.74/Gahanna, Ohio) in 14th, and sophomore Sam Beeler (25.48.50/Cincinnati, Ohio) in 15th.
Freshman Andrew Bracken (25.51.60/Westerville, Ohio) and junior Jake Ethridge (25.54.53/Lewis Center, Ohio) finished close behind in 18th and 21st place.
Freshman Nick Kennedy (26.14.11/Hurricane, W.Va.) finished 33rd and junior Connor Wertman (26.45.60/Uniontown, Ohio) closed it out for the Bobcats, crossing the finish line in 50th.
Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 29.
