AKRON, Ohio— Highlighted by sophomore
Theresa Hagey's third-place finish in the women's 10,000 meter race and senior
Kassidy Betzing's javelin personal record, the Ohio track and field team wrapped up day one of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the Akron Zips.
Hagey (Akron, Ohio) crossed the finish line at 36:23.47, marking the best Bobcat finish in the 10,000 meter race at the MAC Championships since 2014. Sophomore
Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) and redshirt junior
Bailey Roberts (North Kingsville, Ohio) also competed, finishing at 39:21.20 and 40:11.28, respectively.
Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio) kicked things off for the Bobcats with 34.76 meter throw in the javelin event. Passing her previous record of 33.10 meters, Betzing finished eighth. Junior
Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio) also competed, finishing with a 26.20 meter throw.
Fifth year
Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) competed in the 1500 meter run, clocking a time of 4:37.11. With her sixth overall finish in the preliminary run, Pierce advanced to finals on Saturday (May 13) at 1:25 p.m. Freshman
Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) and senior
Alyssa Christian (Newark, Ohio) also ran the 1500, crossing the finish line at 4:38.34 and 4:48.97, respectively.
Up next, the Bobcats return to action tomorrow (May 12) for day two of the MAC Championships.
