DES MOINES, Iowa & MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The Ohio track and field team competed in the Delay Relays and Mountaineer Twilight this past weekend (April 27-29).
Drake Relays:
In the 5000m, sophomore Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) clocked a 16:51.94 and freshman Alyssa Mason (Dubline, Ohio) ran a 16:56.47.
Sophomore Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) made a strong debut in the 10000m as the champion, finishing in 34:53.10. Hagey recorded the fifth fastest time in Ohio history while sophomore Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) crossed the finish line in 37:10.36.
Senior Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio) ran 10:48.01, the fourth fastest time in Ohio history in the 3000m steeplechase.
Meanwhile, fifth year Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) ran a personal best of 4:28.10 in the mile with senior Alyssa Christian (Newark, Ohio) clocking 4:36.92.
Mountaineer Twilight:
Throwers Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio), Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio), and Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio)competed in the shot put, discus, and weight throw. Junior Jordan Baith recorded a second, third, and sixth place finish in the discus, hammer throw, and shot put with marks of 42.58m, 45.45m, and a season best 11.73m. Fifth year Autumn Mohan placed first in the shot put with a throw of 12.86m, third in discus (39.89m) and fourth in hammer (43.42). Sophomore Millie Ryan finished third in the shot put, recording a throw of 12.38m. Ryan took fifth in discus, throwing 37.52 and threw a season best 38.06 in hammer for sixth.
Senior Kassidy Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio) placed third in the javelin with a throw of 32.97m. Redshirt senior Taniah Stephens (Erie, Pa.) finished first in heat and fifth overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.31m. Junior Emily McKenzie (Dillsburg, Pa.) finished right behind with a jump of 5.30m for sixth place. McKenzie grabbed a first-place finish in the triple jump, jumping 11.48m. Betzing also competed, jumping 5.16m. Sophomore Michaela Frey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) wrapped up the field events with a fifth-place finish and mark of 3.25m in the pole vault.
In the 100m, freshman Josie Knierim (McConnelsville, Ohio) placed second overall with a time of 12.50. Stephens took fifth in 12.68 and freshman Maggie Stewart (Worthington, Ohio) finished sixth, winning her heat in 12.77.
Junior Imani Brown (Crown Point, Ind.) finished third in the 400m, clocking 58.39. Freshman Ashley Long (Hilliard, Ohio) also competed, placing sixth in 1:01.53. Freshman Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) took fifth in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:23.42.
In the 200m, Knierim grabbed a first place finish in 25.50, while Stewart took fifth in 26.43 and Long placed seventh in 26.96.
Knierim, Stewart, Betzing, and Stephens took third in the 4x100m while Brown, Besett, Long, and Stephens placed second in the 4x400m.
In the distance events, freshman Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) finished second in the 1500m while fifth year Madelyn Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio) placed third. Doughman and Bartolone finished in 4:40.62 and 4:47.49.
Redshirt junior Bailey Roberts (North Kingsville, Ohio), freshman Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio), and sophomore Avril Moyer (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) took fifth, sixth, seventh with times of 18:07.64, 18:09.85, and 18:23.84, respectively.
Junior Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio) and freshman Jenna Razavi (Medina, Ohio) rounded out the meet with a fourth and fifth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, running 11:21.51 and 11:30.91.
Up next, the Bobcats will head back to Morgantown to conclude the regular season at the WVU Last Chance Invitational on May 6.
