SALEM, Va. – The Ohio Wrestling team started their season today (Nov. 4) at the Southeast Open hosted by Virginia Tech. The Bobcats made their way to Roanoke College to compete in both the Open and Freshman/Sophomore Divisions. With three overall victories and nine finishes within the top five, Ohio's opening meet was an exciting start to a highly anticipated season.
The Bobcats had two individual champions in the Open Division: redshirt sophomores Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) and Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) won in the 165-pound and 157-pound classes respectively. En route to Thompson's victory, he knocked off the 9th ranked and returning All-American Peyton Hall from West Virginia. He would win win the title match with a dominant 7-1 decision. Keller, a NCAA Championship qualifier a year ago, recorded a fall to win the individual championship.
Sophomore Austin Starr (Indian Creek, Ohio) took home the title in the 197-pound class in the Freshman/Sophomore Division. Starr recorded three consecutive falls in his final three matches en route to the victory.
Ohio's other top finishers in the Open Division included sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.) who finished third at the 149-pound class and junior Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) who placed fourth at 174. Raike won by a 5-2 decision in the third place match. Perrine fell in the semifinals by way of a 5-4 decision.
Performances from junior Dan Segura (Columbus, Ohio) at 157, redshirt senior Sean O'Dwyer (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) at 165, and junior Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) at 184 rounded out the quality day for the Bobcats in the Open Division.
In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, sophomore Mason Brugh (Wadsworth, Ohio) placed second in the 133-pound class. Brugh won in the semifinals by recording more riding time in the overtime periods before falling by an 8-2 decision in the final match. Freshman Hunter Janeczko (Yorkville, Ill.) placed in third in the 197-pound weight class, winning his final match with an 8-2 decision.
Other top performances in the Freshman/Sophomore Division were freshmen Bryce Skinner (Uniontown, Ohio) who placed fourth in the 125-pound class and Jeremy Olszko (Northfield, Ohio) who placed fifth at 174.

Ohio will return to Athens to host a meet with UT-Chattanooga and Ashland. Taking place on Nov. 11 at the Convocation Center, the meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
