Ohio Women's Basketball Falls in Tough Battle at App State

BOONE, N.C. – The Ohio women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0 MAC) fell 71-64 in a tough battle at Appalachian State (2-0, 0-0 SBC) on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Holmes Convocation Center.
"I thought we did a lot of things well today. We played three quarters of good basketball. The mistakes we made late in the game are very fixable mistakes. The coaching staff and team are excited to get back to the practice floor and try to fix those mistakes," head coach Bob Boldon said. " We certainly have a formidable opponent in Dayton coming up at the end of next week and want to make sure we're ready to play them and give them our best effort."
In tonight's season opener, Ohio led for most of the game but an unsuccessful fourth quarter allowed App State to come back with the win.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats showed off their potential for success this season. The combination of young talent and veteran leadership will prove useful for Ohio throughout the rest of the season.
Freshmen Laylay Fantroy (Palestine, Texas), Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) and senior Bengisu Alper (Istanbul, Turkey) all recorded 10 points apiece. Fantroy was an integral player for the Bobcats with her smart defense and quick offensive transitions. In total she tallied six steals, two rebounds and a .556 field goal percentage.
Redshirt junior Madi Mace (Parkersburg, W. Va.) contributed to the Ohio's play all over the court. Mace recorded seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and matched her career-high in steals with three.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 16 for their home opener versus Dayton. Tip-off is set for 7:02 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed ESPN+.
