
Women's Golf Wraps Up Shirley Spork EMU Invitational

YPSILANTI, Michigan – The Ohio women's golf team finished play today (Oct. 3) at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational. The Bobcats finished in a tie for sixth alongside Akron after shooting a team score of 911 (+47).Â
The two-day, three-round event was held at Eagle Crest Golf Club and included a field of eleven teams. Oakland won the tournament followed by Bowling Green, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Purdue Fort Wayne, Ohio, Akron, Green Bay, Cleveland State, Central Michigan, and Detroit Mercy.
Senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) led the way for Ohio. The tandem finished in a tie for 25th after shooting a three-round score of 229 (+13).Â
Vega-Rivera opened the tournament with a round of 76 (+4) on Monday morning and followed it up with an afternoon round of 79 (+7). She finished the tournament shooting a 74 (+2) in the third round and jumped nine spots on the leaderboard.Â
Rodgers opened the first day of the tournament with a morning score of 79 (+7) and an afternoon round of 75 (+3). Her final round of 75 pushed her into the tie for 25th, moving her up five places.Â
Freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) found herself in the top-35 on the leaderboard once again this season. Finishing in a two-way tie for 32nd, the freshman had rounds of 73 (+1), 81 (+9), and 77 (+5). Ultimately, Luebbers finished the tournament with a total score of 231 (+15).Â
Just behind Luebbers, juniors Thanya Arasu (St. Johns, Florida) and Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Indiana) had a total score of 233 (+17). The score put the two junior golfers into a tie for 35th. Arasu had rounds of 76 (+4), 80 (+8), and 77 (+5) respectively. Longstreth opened up her tournament with an 83 (+11), but followed up with rounds 78 (+6) and 72 (E).Â
Rounding out the tournament for the Bobcats, sophomore Alaina Nugent (Fortville, Indiana) finished play in a tie for 51st. Her aggregate score of 240 (+24) included rounds of 81 (+9), 77 (+5), and 82 (+10).Â

Ohio will head north to Port Clinton, Ohio to take part in the Rocket Classic Invitational and wrap up the fall season. The tournament, hosted by Toledo, will take place at Catawba Island Club on Oct. 9 and 10.Â
