CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams concluded competition at the 2023 Pre-Nationals meet on Saturday. The men competed in the orange 8k, finishing seventh out of 11 teams, and the women finished 18th out of 20 programs in the blue 6k.
Fifth year
Tony Tonkovich (Athens, Ohio) and junior
Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) led both teams with the top finishes of all Bobcat runners. Tonkovich placed 26
th in the men's orange 8k with a time of 24:53.4. Hagey placed in the top 50 of the women's blue 6k, finishing 42
nd with a time of 20:53.3.
Two other runners from the men's team finished in the top 50, with sophomore
Rocco DeVincent (Morgantown, W. Va.) finishing 38
th (25:07.7, PR) and freshman Marcus Runkle coming in 48
th place (25:16.7).
Sophomore
Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) and junior
Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) rounded out the women's top performers. Boussedra ran a time of 21:15.8 to finish 75
th and Harris finished in 88
th place with a time 21:28.0.
The women's group raced against several nationally ranked programs including No. 6 BYU, No. 7 Virginia, No. 17 Oregon and No. 19 Arkansas.
The Bobcats will be back in action at the MAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
