ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio women's basketball team (2-12, 0-3 MAC) continued Mid-American Conference play Wednesday evening when they hosted the Buffalo Bulls (7-5, 2-1), falling 69-64.
Overall, the Bobcats shot 42.6 from the field, 39.1 from three and were 9-of-11 from the line. Buffalo shot 44.2 percent from the field, 33.3 from the three and were 18-of-24 from the line.
Individually, sophomore
Yaya Felder (Hartford, Conn.) led the team with 22 points, going 4-of-4 from the line and 4-of-5 from three. Redshirt junior forward
Abby Garnett (Golden, Colo.) scored 13 points, including two from three, while redshirt senior guard
Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio) had a team-best nine rebounds.
The Bobcats won the tip, quickly scoring the first four points of the game with back-to-back layups from Garnett and Kroll. Ohio ended the first 10 minutes of play with a slight edge, leading 21-19 after redshirt junior guard
Jasmine Hale (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored with five seconds left in the quarter.
The Bulls opened the second quarter with a driving layup, but Ohio answered with a three from Felder and two free throws to maintain their lead. The Bobcats pulled ahead, entering halftime with a 42-35.
At the half, Ohio shot 50 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from three and were 2-of-3 from the line while Buffalo shot 44.8 from the field, 28.6 percent from three and were 7-of-9 from the line. The Bulls outrebounded the Bobcats, 19-15.
Ohio had a slow start to the third quarter, scoring just three points in the first five minutes. Buffalo took the opportunity to tie the game coming out of the timeout, but layups from Felder and Garnett allowed the Bobcats to reclaim the lead, 51-47. After a three from junior guard
Kailah Johnson (Holland, Ohio), Ohio entered the final 10 minutes with a 56-50 lead.
Buffalo closed the gap in the fourth quarter, taking a 60-58 lead after a 10-2 run. Freshman guard
Jaya McClure (Louisville, Ky.) cut the Bulls' lead to one point with 2:54 left in the game, but the Bobcats were unable to stop Buffalo's offense, falling 69-64.
