BETHLEHEM, Penn. & DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams had a strong showing at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh and OWU Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan this Friday (Sept. 30). The men competed in the 8k while the women ran the 6k.
At the Paul Short Run, the women's team collected a top-20 finish. The women ran seven of the top-15 times in school history with eight runners achieving personal bests. Freshman Leila Boussedra recorded another PR, clocking the third fastest time in the Ohio books. Boussedra ran a 20:55.7 and was closely followed by freshman Alyssa Mason who posted the fourth fastest time in school history with a 20:56.5. Sophomore Theresa Hagey was not too far behind with a 20:57.2 and the fifth fastest time school history. Other scorers for the Bobcats where freshman Allie Martin with a time of 21:10.9 and fifth year Stephanie Pierce with a 21:14.1.
On the men's side, six runners clocked PRs while junior Wendesen King recorded the 12th fastest time in school history. King ran a 24:26.6 and was followed by junior Michael Tonkovich with a 24:41.0 and graduate student Ethan Frisone with a 24:52.4. Sophomores Connor Wertman and Jack Myers also scored for the Bobcats clocking times of 25:26.2 and 25:35.7.
Members of the women's team also competed at the OWU Invitational. The team of graduate student Mary Kate McElroy, sophomore Kenna Loveless, junior Bailey Roberts, and junior Sophia Hoersten swept first through fourth place. McElroy took first with a 22:03.3, Loveless finished second with a 22:37.0, Roberts ran a 22:42.6 to take third, and Hoersten secured fourth with a 22:55.5.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to Bowling Green to take part in the Falcon Invite on Oct. 14.
