Ohio Soccer Defeats Marshall on the Road

Huntington, West Virginia – The Ohio soccer team (1-1-1) returned on the road this Sunday night defeating Marshall (1-0-3), 3-1 at Hoops Family Field.
The Bobcat's got an early lead when Haley Miller assisted Regan Berg for a goal at minute 6:17. This Bobcat lead increased when Cailynn Adelman recieved a cross from Abby Townsend in minute 44:33. Adelman took an incredible header making the score 2-0 to end the first half. The Bobcat's finished the half with 10 shots, while Marshall had four.
With Ohio holding the lead into the second half, Marshall's offense came out battling to score at minute 55:54. Morgan White put Marshall back into the game at 2-1 with about 35 minutes left of play. Ohio's Aubrey Rea then responded in the 83rd minute with a fast rebound from Hailey Jeng's shot on goal, bringing the Bobcats to their 3-1 lead.
Individually, Abby Townsend had one shot on goal and one assist, whereas Isabella Ginocchi led Ohio with three shots on goal. Both players contributed to the total of 16 shots on goal for the Bobcat's. Other shots came from Shae Robertson(2), Regan Berg(2), Haley Miller(1), Rayann Pruss(1), Carsyn Prigge(1), Kennedy Rieple(1), Maia Kaufman(1), and Eve Berish(1).
In net, freshman Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio), led her defense with a recorded seven saves. This was Sloma's third regular season appearance for the Bobcat's, proving to hold strong.
Coach Aaron Rodger's speaks on the Bobcat win: "Tonight proved to be a game where we had to find a way to react coming out flat after half time. We played a pretty controlled 1st half and scored a coupe great goals. Credit to Marshall for competing at a high level and pushing us. We had some huge impact from substitutes that changed the game for us in the 2nd half. Very proud of how we finished the game."
The Bobcats will be back home next Sunday, Sept. 4, with a 1 pm kickoff against Virginia Military Institute.
