No. 2 Ohio Softball Season Ends Against No. 4 BGSU in MAC Tournament

OXFORD, Ohio – The second-seeded Ohio softball team (23-25) wrapped up the 2022 season on Friday, falling to No. 4 Bowling Green (31-18), 5-3 in 10 innings in the 2022 Mid-American Conference Tournament. 
 
Overall, Ohio scored three runs on eight hits and committed two errors, while Bowling Green scored five runs on nine hits and committed one error. 
 
Individually, sophomore Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 2-for-5 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored, while senior Caroline Spacek (Beaumont, Texas) registered two hits and one RBI. Fifth year Allie Englant (Long Beach, Calif.) added a hit and a walk, while sophomore Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) and juniors Sophia Bernard (Canton, Ohio)and Alexis Dawe (Valley Springs, Calif.) all added hits.
 
Bowling Green threatened in the top of the first inning, putting runners on first and second with one out. With two outs, both runners advanced a base due to a passed ball, however, the Ohio defense was able to retire the next batter, sending the game to the bottom of the inning with the game still tied at 0-0.  In the bottom of the frame, the Bobcats were able to get a runner on when Englant drew a walk, however, the Falcons were able to turn a double play to end the Ohio threat, sending the game to the second still scoreless. 
 
After a scoreless second and third from Bowling Green, Ohio got another baserunner on in the bottom of the third after graduate student Tori Walker (Plain City, Ohio) reached when she was hit by a pitch. However, the Ohio offense was unable to capitalize, sending the game to the fourth still scoreless. 
 
Bowling Green took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out two RBI double, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead going to the bottom of the frame. 
 
Ohio got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Logan reached on a leadoff hit, she moved to second on a base hit from Paoli. With one out, Spacek crushed a double to center, allowing Logan to score from second. After Walker drew a two-out walk to load the bases, the Falcons were able to get the final batter of the inning to strike out, sending the game to the fifth with BGSU still leading 2-1. 
 
After BGSU got a runner on in the top of the fifth inning, the Ohio defense was able to get an out and then force a ground out, that resulted in an interference call that ended the inning with Ohio down one. 
 
The Bobcats took advantage of the energy and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Yuhas drew a walk to lead off the inning. Then with one out, Logan crushed a two-run homerun to left center, giving Ohio a 3-2 lead going to the sixth inning. 
 
The Falcons threatened to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning with a lead off base hit. The runner then moved to second on a passed ball. However, the Ohio defense was able to stay solid, holding the one-run lead going to the bottom of the frame. 
 
Ohio threatened to add on in in the bottom of the sixth inning when Bernard reached on a one-out single down the left field line. However, the Bobcats' offense was unable to capitalize, sending the game to the top of the seventh with Ohio leading, 3-2. 
 
Bowling Green tied the game up in the top of the seventh inning on a leadoff solo homerun, knotting the game at 3-3 going to the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bobcats threatened in the bottom of the seventh. After sophomore Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) lead the inning off being hit by a pitch, she moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Englant. However, the inning would end on a loud deep fly ball from Paoli, sending the game to extras tied at 3-3. 
 
The Falcons once again threatened to retake the lead in the top of the eighth inning, putting runners on first and second with two outs. However, Paoli was able to make a diving play to end the inning on a diving play, sending the game to the bottom of the frame still tied. The Bobcats had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth, when the first two batters reached. However, Ohio was unable to capitalize, sending the game ot the top of nineth tied at 3-3. 
 
After a scoreless top of the ninth from Bowling Green. The Bobcats attempted to take the game in the bottom of the inning. Englant led the inning off with a single to center. She then moved to second when Logan reached on an error. Both moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt from graduate student Megan McMenemy (Westerville, Ohio), putting two runners in scoring position with one out. However, Ohio was unable to take advantage, sending the game to the 10th still tied at 3-3. 
 
 Bowling Green took the lead in the top of the 10th inning, scoring two runs on two hits and an RBI single, giving the Falcons the 5-3 lead going to the bottom of the 10th

Ohio threatened to rally in the bottom of the 10th. With two outs, senior Caitlin Fogue (Columbia, Mo.) reached after she was hit by a pitch. She then moved to third on a single from Dawe. Entlant then came to bat and drove a ball to deep left field, dorcing the outfielder to catch the ball at the wall, sealing the 5-3 win for the Falcons. 
 
In the circle, senior Mackensie Kohl (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) pitched 10 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out a career-high 10 batters.
